Oscars 2025 makes unexpected announcement in wake of LA wildfires
Oscars made a major announcement in the wake of devastating wildfires which have swept through Los Angeles, California.
The major award ceremony declared that the announcement of Oscar nominations for the 97th Academy Awards, originally set for January 17, has been postponed to January 19.
In this regard, the Critics Choice Awards took to X (formally known as Twitter) posted, “The 30th annual Critics Choice Awards ceremony has been postponed from January 12th to January 26th due to the catastrophic fires ravaging Southern California.”
“The rescheduled event will remain at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, California, and will broadcast live on E! and around the world. It will also be available on Peacock the next day,” the statement added.
Nominations' voting for the 97th Oscars opened this morning, however, it has been extended by two days to give members more time to cast their ballots.
According to the post, the voting will now close on Tuesday, January 14 at 5pm PT.
The unexpected announcement comes amid the devastating fire in Los Angeles, which has seen several celebrities lose their homes.
For the unversed, Los Angeles has been plagued by uncontrolled blaze since it erupted early Tuesday morning, January 7, 2024.
Hollywood stars, including Mark Hamill, Paris Hilton, Mandy Moore and James Woods, are planning to evacuate their homes.
