Dave Grohl recalls hilarious 'SNL' blunder
Dave Grohl discussed when his band, Foo Fighters' name was mispronounced during their 'SNL' gig
Dave Grohl just came clean over the 2003 Saturday Night Live blunder.
For context, back in 2003, when Dave Grohl and his iconic rock band, Foo Fighters were featured as musical guests on Saturday Night Live, also known as SNL, with their name being mispronounced by the guest host Christopher Walken.
However, in the new docuseries, SNL50: Beyond Saturday Night, the Nirvana alum admitted that it was actually him who asked Walken to do that.
The 51-year-old sharing an anecdote about how Walken, came to accent "Foo" instead of "Fighters" when the band performed on the variety show in February 2003, as per Entertainment Weekly, Grohl said, "We got to meet him for the first time at Saturday Night Live.”
"Before introducing the band, he asked me if the accent was on 'Foo' or 'Fighters,'" the Everlong hitmaker added.
In an archival footage the actor was seen talking to Grohl and his mates before they filmed the promo video.
Just before they start to film, Walken turned to them and asked, "What's the emphasis? 'Foo Fighters' or 'Foo Fighters?'"
Jokingly, Grohl had responded, "Foo Fighters' is the best."
And now, in a moment of epiphany, the musician realized that his joke had actually worked when the bad geared up to take the stage.
"We were standing there on the stage as we were about to go to air, and I'm like, 'Oh, he's gonna do it! He's gonna do it! He's gonna f***ing do it!' Pin-drop silence, and he says, 'Ladies and gentlemen, Foo Fighters,'" Dave Grohl recalled.
