Sugar has started selling at Rs 150 per kg in the general market, sugar was available at Rs 133 per kg in Lahore before Eid.
The ex-mill rate of sugar per kg is Rs 142 and the price of sugar in the wholesale market is Rs 144 per kg.
According to the Institute of Statistics, the inflation rate in the country has decreased by 0.79 percent on a weekly basis during the last week, while it has increased by 28.54 percent on an annual basis.
According to the weekly report released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics on the Sensitive Price Index (SPI), in the week ending April 18, the prices of 11 essential items of daily use decreased and the prices of 18 items remained stable, on the contrary, 22 items remained stable. During the last week, the price of flour increased by 8.97%, banana price by 8.67%, electricity price by 7.16% for the lowest income group, egg price by 6.67%, LPG by 2.84%, onion by 1.40%. Per cent, red chilli powder by 1.31 per cent, 5 liter cooking oil by 0.45 per cent, dal masoor by 0.43 per cent, and two and a half kilos of ghee by 2.5 per cent.
On the contrary, the price of potato is 17.07%, tomato 12.67%, chicken 11.60%, printdalan 3.55%, shirting 3.55%, garlic 2.88%, diesel 2.87%, beef 2.56%, georgette 1.91%, dal mash 1.62%, and sugar. The price increased by 1.10 percent.
A 0.71 percent decrease in the price sensitive index has been recorded for the group with the lowest monthly income of Rs 17732, from Rs 17733 to Rs 22888, from Rs 22889 to Rs 29517, from Rs 29518 to Rs 44175 and above. The sensitive indices of 0.83%, 0.90%, 0.79% and 0.70% decreased respectively.
The price sensitive index for consumers is determined on the basis of changes in the prices of 51 essential commodities in 50 markets of 17 major cities of the country.
