Shaukat Tareen's announcement to quit PTI and politics

Former Finance Minister and Senator Shaukat Tareen also announced to quit politics and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf.



According to media reports, Shaukat Tareen has also left the Senate seat. He was elected senator on PTI ticket.

After leaving the party, he said that he is resigning from PTI and Senate, due to economic conditions and health, the last two and a half years have been very difficult.

He said that he is leaving politics after consulting his family and friends.

Shaukat Tarin, a banker by profession, was born in 1953 in Multan, South Punjab.

Shaukat Tareen has also held the post of Federal Finance Minister. He was the Finance Minister in Yousuf Raza Gilani's cabinet from 2008 to 2010.

Initially, he served as an advisor to Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani, while in 2009, after being elected as a senator from Sindh, he was entrusted with the portfolio of the Federal Finance Minister.

Shaukat Tareen resigned from the federal cabinet in 2010 citing conflict of interest after the Silk Bank stake raising controversy came to light.

Shaukat Tareen received his MBA from Punjab University and joined Citibank in 1975 where he worked for 22 years and retired as Country Manager in Thailand.

He has also been the Chairman of Habib Bank and Union Bank while also on the Board of Directors of Silk Bank.

Apart from this, he has served twice as the Chairman of Karachi Stock Exchange from 2002 to 2008.
