Abrar Ahmed out of Perth Test, name of replacement spinner announced

The PCB says it will decide on Abrar's availability for the second Test after a full medical

The Pakistan cricket team suffered a major blow on Sunday as spinner Abrar Ahmed was ruled out of the first Test against Australia starting December 14 in Perth. Abrar bowled a total of 27 overs during the four-day practice match against PM XI where he also took one wicket. At the end of the third day he complained of some pain in his right leg for which an MRI was done.

PCB said in a brief press release that a provisional diagnosis was made during the evaluation by the medical team justifying the MRI scan which was done on the same day. Abrar will undergo another test in Perth on Monday after which he will continue his rehab under the supervision of the team's medical staff.

Abrar has not yet been ruled out of the Test series but further assessment ahead of the second Test will determine his availability for the tour, taking into account the player's fitness for this and future tours.

Meanwhile, Selection Committee Chairman Wahab Riaz has approved the name of off-spinner Sajid Khan on the request of the team management. Sajid will fly to Perth after finalizing his travel arrangements. It should be noted that this is Pakistan's first Test tour of Australia after 2019 when they lost 2-0 as green shirts, losing both matches by an innings under the captaincy of Azhar Ali. Pakistan has never won a Test series in Australia in its entire history.
