Turkish MP dies of heart attack after anti-Israel speech in parliament

According to a foreign news agency, the 54-year-old opposition member of parliament in Turkey, Hasan Batmiz, gave a speech in the parliament and during that time he criticized the government's policy towards Israel.

During the closing remarks of the speech, the member of parliament suffered a heart attack and fell to the ground, after which he was taken to Ankara City Hospital but could not be revived.

Turkey's Health Minister Farahtin Koka confirmed in a televised interview with journalists that Hasan Batmiz, a member of the opposition Felicity (Sadat) Party, had died.

A graduate of Al-Azhar University in Cairo, Hassan Batmiz was the chairman of the Center for Islamic Union and previously worked for Islamic NGOs.

Before his death, the MP was criticizing President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's ruling AKP party for Turkey's continued trade with Israel despite the war in Gaza.
