Untreated diseases could kill more than bombings in Gaza, WHO warns
The World Health Organization has issued a warning that untreated diseases in Gaza may pose a greater threat than bombings if the health system is not restored.
Diarrhoea and respiratory infections are prevalent, particularly among children in crowded UN facilities housing nearly 1.1 million people. Patients with chronic illnesses like cancer are also going without treatment. Meanwhile, a truce between Israel and Hamas, mediated by Qatar, Egypt, and the United States, is in its fifth day, with a recent extension. The truce involves the release of hostages and prisoners on both sides.
The situation in Gaza escalated following a cross-border attack by Hamas gunmen, leading to a military campaign and siege by Israel. The conflict has resulted in a significant loss of lives, with differing figures reported by the two sides.
